Real life is not a movie. INSTEAD OF TAKING OVER THE E.R., WE NEED...

  • Health care for all.

  • Health care is too important to be a privilege. It has to be a government-guaranteed basic human right

  • Political leaders brave enough to stand up to the big money special interests and vote to make health care a basic human right here in the U.S.

  • A loud voice from all the John Qs and Jane Qs who believe in comprehensive, quality, affordable health care for all.

Every other modern country in the world has health care for all. We are the richest, most powerful country on earth. We can do it if we have the will to do it.

Here in the U.S., we already make sure that everyone over 65 gets health care. Just ask your parents or grandparents what life would be like without Medicare! We already fund 65% of health care in this country from public money (taxes) and per capita thats about twice what any other industrialized country is spending. AND THEY cover everyone for that!

In Congress, House Concurrent Resolution 99 commits Congress to pass legislation guaranteeing access to health care for all by the next Presidential election in 2004. Remember, though, that universal primary and secondary education was passed state-by-state through decades of struggle, before the Federal government was convinced.

State Efforts throughout the country aim at state by state Heatlh Care for All. Visit www.EverybodyInNobodyOut.org and find out about your state. Universal primary and secondary education was also achieved in state-by-state legislation and was not initially accepted as a right of all citizens.

Here in the United States 40 million of us don't have any health insurance, and most of these uninsured are working people. Uninsured people live sicker and die earlier. That's wrong.

The rest of us have to fight with our health plans to get the care we need - just like John Q - and we are seeing our premiums and out-of-pocket costs skyrocket and our benefits cut back.

Nearly all working people in this country are "underinsured". That means needed treatments and procedures are excluded from our coverages, although we don't realize it until its too late (like John Q). Even those well-insured now, have no assurance that they and their family will remain so well-covered for the coming decades of life.?Tens of thousands of New Yorkers lost their health coverage after Sept. 11th, and many thousands since then because of the recession.

"How's this going to end, John?"

IN THE REAL WORLD, IT'S UP TO US. Hollywood won't write the happy ending we need - but joining together, we can.
